The Thunder Buddies are back in this riotous comedy sequel from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane.
Slacker John (Mark Wahlberg) and his teddy bear best bud (Seth MacFarlane) are as tight as ever, but their respective love lives have gone down the tube. The former is recently divorced and Ted’s marriage to Jessica Barth’s Tami-Lynn is under serious strain. They’re a year in and the spark has well and truly gone, so (naturally) they decide to liven things up by having a baby. It sounds like a wonderful idea, but the practical considerations soon rear their ugly head.
Ted lacks the basic equipment and Tami-Lynn’s years of drugging have left her infertile, so adoption becomes the only option. It also becomes complicated when the government decide to question the essential humanity of a talking children’s toy. With his rights on the line, our ursine hero hires Amanda Seyfried’s pothead lawyer and takes the fight to the powers that be.
It’s over-long and over-reliant on a one-note joke, but those who didn’t have their fill the first time around will have an absolute blast. Wahlberg and MacFarlane are a reliable double act and they make sure the premise is mined for every ounce of its comic worth.
