Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Directed by
Irvin Kershner

After the huge success of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher returned to reprise their roles as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia in this superb sequel.

Luke Skywalker undergoes Jedi training from Yoda as preparation for more battles against the Empire, while romance blossoms between Han Solo and Leia. Much darker and more complex than the original film, Star Wars Episode V: the Empire Strikes Back emphasises character revelations - including a surprise about Luke's parentage - without stinting on the action and visual effects, which won a special Oscar.

This is the 1997 special edition version of the film, featuring souped-up special effects.
