Farm boy Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) wishes for more excitement in his life. Then one day he uncovers a secret message from the imprisoned Rebel Alliance leader Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), intended for local hermit Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness). He tracks down Obi-Wan, who tells Luke about the Jedi warriors and the mysterious Force, a natural power which Jedis can harness. After initially refusing to help Obi-Wan rescue Leia, Luke finally agrees, and the pair - along with lovable droids C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and R2-D2 (Kenny Baker) - enlist smuggler Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Solo's co-pilot Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) to take them to find Leia.
It is not long before they find themselves embroiled in the fight between the Rebel Alliance and the evil Empire, which is headed by the terrifying and ruthless Darth Vader (played by David Prowse, voiced by James Earl Jones). The group manage to free Leia, but then face an even bigger battle to destroy the Empire's ultimate weapon - the Death Star.
