A charming family fantasy-adventure from Hayao Miyazaki - master of Japanese animation and director of Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke - that reworks Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid.
When five-year-old Sosuke is playing down by the water of his fishing town, the last thing he expects to see is a goldfish with girl's face. Her real name is Brunhilde and she's the daughter of Fujomoto, a powerful human wizard who has renounced life on land for one in the ocean's depths. Boy and fish-girl are instantly smitten with each other, and he gives her a new name, Ponyo. She returns to her father to say that she no longer wants to live in the sea and would prefer to be human.
