Radio 3 in Concert: The LSO and Sir Simon RattleSeries 1, episode 0As the LSO's Music Director, Sir Simon Rattle makes a point of beginning each new season with a celebration of British music in all its diversity - past, present and future. Tonight's concert begins with Sun Poem, a recent piece about the journey of fatherhood by Daniel Kidane. In the words of one reviewer: "A single muted trumpet note sounded hesitantly, which gave birth to another note in the flutes, then another in the brass. Suddenly the whole orchestra seemed to be capering madly, suggesting an enticing future ahead of the new-born." After this, Frank Bridge celebrates the dazzling rebirth of nature in Enter Spring, and Elgar traces what he called "the passionate pilgrimage of the soul" in his Second Symphony. Daniel Kidane: Sun Poem. Frank Bridge: Enter Spring. Elgar: Symphony No 2. London Symphony Orchestra, Sir Simon Rattle (conductor). Concert recorded at the Barbican, London, on 11th September.
