Radio 3 in Concert

Martin Handley presents from the Lighthouse in Poole, Dorset, as Ludovic Morlot conducts the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in a programme of music inspired by Spain by Turina, Falla, Debussy and Ravel. Spanish song, dance rhythms and lyrical Moorish and Andalusian melodies characterise both Turina's Danzas Fantasticas and Falla's Nights in the Gardens of Spain. Highly-acclaimed Scottish pianist Steven Osborne joins the orchestra as the soloist in Falla's Iberian work. Debussy's shimmering orchestral work Iberia infuses typical Spanish music with a Gallic flavour, and Ravel's iconic and mesmerising Bolero, originally commissioned as part of a ballet, brings the concert to a dramatic climax.
