Radio 3 in Concert: Tchaikovsky from Gottingen

Fiona Talkington presents a recital from the Renaissance Court at Weilburg Castle in the German state of Hesse, with Nicholas Milton conducting the Gottingen Symphony Orchestra in Borodin and Tchaikovsky. . They begin with the dramatic Polovtsian Dances from Borodin's opera Prince Igor before being joined by soloist Aleksey Semenenko for a performance of Tchaikovsky's intimate and balletic Violin Concerto. In the second half, the orchestra picks up the balletic theme with the suite from Swan Lake. During the interval, there are recordings of Tchaikovsky's String Quartet Movement in B flat and Borodin's unfinished String Sextet.
