Roman Polanski

Roman Polanski directs Jack Nicholson (pictured) in one of his most memorable roles in a classic, Oscar-winning tale of dark deeds in 1930s Los Angeles.

Nicholson plays private eye Jake "JJ" Gittes, who becomes entangled in a web of corruption after being hired to investigate a seemingly straightforward adultery case. Along the way he encounters a femme fatale (Faye Dunaway), a sinister water baron (legendary director-actor John Huston) and an unpleasant man with a very sharp knife (Polanski in an unforgettable cameo)...

Producer Robert Evans and screenwriter Robert Townes were back on board for the 1990 sequel The Two Jakes, in which Nicholson reprised his role alongside Harvey Keitel.
