When geeky highschooler Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) buys his first car, he hopes it will improve his chances with cutie Mikaela (Megan Fox). So you can imagine his surprise when his beaten-up Camaro transforms into an alien robot called Bumblebee and asks for his assistance in a deadly war. With mankind's fate on his weedy shoulders, Witwicky must join forces with Bumblebee and the rest of his Autobot comrades in their fight against the murderous Decepticons.
In a strong pairing of director and material, director Michael Bay goes to town on the concept of humongous robots beating one another to a pulp (well, scrap metal). And while the plot is wonderfully implausible (hinging on the existence of a magic cube), the film delivers a visual and kinetic feast that never takes itself too seriously. It's loud, bombastic popcorn fun, with a stand-out performance from LaBeouf.
