Cindy (Jennifer Garner) and Jim (Joel Edgerton) Green are desperate to start a family, but are devastated to learn they are unable to conceive a child. In an act of blind hope they decide to bury scraps of paper containing their wishes for a baby at the bottom of the garden. One night, after a thunderstorm, against all reason, a ten-year-old boy shows up on their doorstep, claiming to be their son.
Concluding their dreams must have come true, the Greens take little Timothy into their home, but the good-hearted youngster hides a devastating secret which means his stay can't last forever.
Based on a story from the mind of Ahmet Zappa (son of Frank), Timothy Green benefits from the talents of a fine cast and a writer-director well-versed in tales involving young families (he also crafted the screenplays for About A Boy and What's Eating Gilbert Grape)
While it might not convert the most steadfast of cynics, this good-hearted family film is a bit of a tearjerker.
