Jaume Collet-Serra's stylish, disturbing psychological thriller centres on the ill-fated family life of Kate and John Coleman.
Following the stillbirth of their third child, recovering alcoholic Kate and former philanderer John's marriage is feeling the strain. To get things back on track, the couple decide to adopt nine-year-old Russian orphan Esther, whose life has also been dogged by tragedy. But, not long after the precocious girl's arrival in the family unit, a series of difficult-to-explain 'accidents' gives Kate and John good reason to question the wisdom of their decision. Then things really start to spiral out of control with an unexpected twist as the family fight for their lives.
