Colin Higgins's feminist comedy stars Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin as three office workers stuck with an odious sexist pig for a boss. After her husband runs off with another woman, Judy Bernly must find work for the first time. Joining Consolidated Companies as a secretary, she is taken under the wing of super-efficient, long-time office manager Violet Newstead and fellow secretary Doralee Rhodes. The trio have the misfortune of working for Franklin Hart Jr - a first class chauvinist, who will quite happily tip pencils on the floor just so he can ogle Rhodes's cleavage while she picks them up. When Newstead is unfairly passed over for promotion for the umpteenth time, the women head for Doralee's house to commiserate and smoke pot, which prompts revenge fantasies from each of them. But then fantasy blends with reality, and events spin out of control for the trio.
