Jane Fonda deservedly won an Oscar for her portrayal of neurotic call girl Bree Daniels, stalked by a homicidal maniac, in Alan J Pakula's potent 1971 adult thriller. Donald Sutherland is excellent, too, as melancholic small-town cop John Klute, delving into the disappearance of a friend and uncovering considerably more than he bargained for. Combined with Pakula's atmospheric directing, the film has tremendous attention to detail and powerful moments of suspense.
