Still tormented by his brush with death after aliens attacked New York City, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has fallen far from the heroic Iron Man figure the public know and love.
But when maniacal terrorist The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) destroys his home and wounds his chief of security (Jon Favreau), Stark suits up and attempts to find a way to get even. Little does he know that the threat extends to his girlfriend Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow) and nothing is quite as it seems.
Following the phenomenally successful Avengers Assemble, Iron Man 3 is the film that kicks off 'phase two' of Marvel's money-spinning franchise. Despite being our fourth encounter with Downey Jr's Iron Man, the saga shows no signs of rusting up, with this perhaps the best instalment so far.
With spectacular, innovative action sequences, surprising twists and plenty of snappy humour, Shane Black's second directorial effort (he also directed Downey Jr in 2005's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) never fails to entertain, and makes for a thoroughly satisfying superhero blockbuster.
