High School Musical is a classic love story the most popular boy in school, handsome hunk and basketball ace Troy, falls for shy, pretty and ultra brainy Gabriella. They're brought together by accident in a hotel's New Year's Eve song competition, then Gabriella's family moves and she finds herself at Troy's high school.
Thrilled to see each other, the youngsters are obviously in love. But Troy's basketball team mates are horrified this love affair could jeopardise an important game. And Gabriella's brainiac friends explain that jocks and nerds just don't mix. The couple's friends even plot to break them up. But auditions for the high school's musical are coming up.
Can Troy and Gabriella beat the brother/sister team who always star in school productions and get the lead roles? What will happen in the big game? Will Gabriella help the school triumph in the scholastic decathlon? And most importantly, can love conquer all?
Directed by Kenny Ortega, who was responsible for the choreography in Dirty Dancing, this movie has it all romance, drama, comedy, music, superbly choreographed dance routines and excellent performances from its young stars.
