Hellboy (2004)

Supernatural thriller, based on the comic-book character created by Mike Mignola. The film revolves around a superhero demon who is called into being by the Nazis in the Second World War, before being raised by the US military to fight for the forces of good. A cigar-chomping, crimson demon with a breezeblock for a right hand, Hellboy has a gift for fighting otherwordly beasts.

Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, winner of the Bafta for Best Film Not in the English Language for Pan's Labyrinth, brings Hellboy to life with Ron Perlman as the titular hero. The supporting cast includes veteran actor John Hurt and Selma Blair.
