Unruly New York detectives Jimmy Monroe (Bruce Willis) and Paul Hodges (Tracy Morgan) have been working together for nine years but their partnership is about to come under some serious strain. Hauled before their captain after a bungled shoot-out, the duo are suspended without pay, the decision being particularly painful for Jimmy who needs to fund his daughter's wedding. Desperate for cash, he decides to sell a valuable baseball card, only to have it stolen by obnoxious thief Dave (William Scott), who also makes off with Paul's favourite gun. As the two hunt down Dave, they find themselves tangling with a memorabilia-obsessed gangster, as Paul's obsession with his wife's alleged infidelity pushes their partnership to breaking point.
