Carrie's book launch party finds the newly-minted author in contemplative mood. Having been introduced to fellow writer Jack Berger she finds herself drawn to him, but her hopes are shattered when he reveals he has a girlfriend. Charlotte's romantic hopes are also dashed thanks to her former mother-in-law Bunny, who turns up at her apartment to find Charlotte's date has slept over. When Bunny tells him that Charlotte is still married he heads out the door. At the party, Carrie muses on her solitude, Miranda tries to seduce a former flame and Samantha attempts to hide her face after a chemical peel too far.
