The Midwives: How the Other Half Push

Following the work of the community midwives at Arrowe Park Hospital in the Wirral, serving mothers-to-be from vastly different social and economic backgrounds. In Birkenhead, midwife Katie deals with a mix of teen mums, deprivation and social service cases as she tracks down absent mums and visits a mother whose newborn has been taken into care. Conversely, on the affluent side of the Wirral, midwife Jan tends to some anxious, older, professional mothers keen to have everything done to plan. Which of the two sides presents the greatest challenge for the midwives? And are things always so black and white?
