Opening Lines: Georges (Part 2)

Series 6, episode 7

John Yorke presents the second of two editions in which he examines Alexander Dumas's early page-turner Georges, focusing on the central theme of the book - race. Although a mixed-race man, Dumas very seldom addressed the issue in his work. Georges is the only novel in which it plays any part. Yorke looks at how the book approaches the issues of slavery and race revenge and Dumas's attitude toward his own heritage
