The Andorra Ultra Trail is a 170 kilometre running event that challenges competitors to scale 13,500 metres of climbing, more than 1.5 times the height of Everest, in just two days. Taking place in the Pyrenees, the terrain is demanding and technical, but the views spectacular, as runners ascend to the highest point in the principality, the summit of Comapedrosa, on their way to crossing 16 summits. With shorter courses also available, the event is a festival of trail running. Commentary comes from Patrick Winterton.
