Men's favourites
Rafael Nadal (Spain) will be the big favourite once again. He became last year the first player to win French title in his main draw debut since Mats Wilander in 1982. A winner of eight tournaments on clay in 2005, including the French Open and the Masters Series in Monte Carlo and Rome, the young Spanish player lost only twice on this surface (Gaudio in Buenos Aires and Andreev in Valencia). Number 2 in the ATP rankings behind Federer, his ambition is to win a second French Open in a row.
