The Bangalore Open, one of the newer events on the WTA circuit, has this year been awarded Tier II status and as a result a number of the world's top players will be battling it out for the prize money of $600,000 that makes it the biggest women's tennis event in India. This outdoor hard-court event was first contested in 2003, then at Hyderabad, and moved to its current home in Bangalore in 2006.
