The Zagreb International Athletic Meeting, better known as the Boris Hanzekovic Memorial or Hanzek, is one of the oldest and most respected sporting events in Croatia and takes place on 4 July. Over the last 50 years the event has been the stage for numerous athletic stars and has seen its popularity steadily rise. After being a Grand Prix Permit Meeting for two years, Zagreb went on to become a Grand Prix II and then in 2001 was ranked among the top 20 meetings in the world. 2003 marked its first outing as an IAAF Grand Prix, a status it thoroughly deserves.
