Set in Valco, a fictional supermarket in the north-west of England, Trollied is an eight-part sitcom that puts a comic twist on one of our most familiar surroundings. Acting deputy manager Julie (BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Jane Horrocks, Absolutely Fabulous, Little Voice) struggles to assert her authority and fails at almost every attempt to make a good impression on store manager Gavin (Jason Watkins, Being Human). She also has something of a crush on Gavin, who manages to rebuff her clumsily executed flirtations - that is, if he's aware of them at all. Julie's many weaknesses include a significant lack of people skills, a source of amusement for butcher double-act Andy (Mark Addy, Game of Thrones, The Full Monty) and Kieran (Nick Blood, Material Girl). While Andy is a dedicated to the art of butchery, his young apprentice Kieran is bored of chops, mince and ribs. Similarly, at the checkout, a fed-up Katie (Chanel Cresswell, This Is England) dreams of going travelling. The only good thing about her job in Valco is the clear chemistry she has with Kieran. Meanwhile, new starter Margaret (Rita May, Coronation Street), a recruit of Valco's older person employment scheme, is a constant source of irritation to Julie and far from a natural on the tills. Filmed in a purpose-built, fully functional replica supermarket, Trollied is directed by Paul Walker (Shameless), scripted by a team of writers - Julie Rutterford (Shameless), Anne Marie O'Connor (Waterloo Road), Paul Doolan (Man Stroke Woman, Mongrels, Armstrong and Miller), Chris Haywood, Nat Saunders (Smack the Pony & Big Train) - and executive produced by BAFTA Award winner Ash Atalla (The IT Crowd, The Office) for Rough Cut TV.
