Tom Jones - In His Own Words (2000)

Tom Jones was born as Thomas Jones Woodward on June 7th 1940 in Pontypridd, Treforset, Glamorgan, South Wales. He now resides in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A and Cowbridge, South Wales.

From an early age Tom was destined to spend his life singing. He sang in the church choir as a child and would pretend to be on stage when he was at home.

In 1963 Tom met Gordon Mills who became his manager and dragged him off to London to land him a record deal. This was no easy task as most of the record producers found his voice too powerful and his attitude too sexual. however in 1964 Decca Records signed him up. His first single was a flop buthis second "It's Not Unusual" rocketed him to super stardom.

Now Tom is still an established name in Music and by the end of the 1970's alone he had sold well over 30 million records across the globe.

What always strikes a chord with me is that all through his career, from being a no-body to a super star he and wife Linda (Melinda) have stayed together, not a fact that many stars can brag about.
