Dr Meave Leakey's discovery of an ancient fossil called Flat-Faced Man could revolutionise our understanding of human evolution. Kenyanthropus platyops, as it has been named, may well mean we have to re-position our place in the 'family tree' of human development. It seems that between 3.5 and 2 million years ago there were several human-like species sharing the Earth, any of which could be our ancestors.
