Les Woollends and his head chef Lesz Zajak welcome the contestants to the Clarendon Royal Hotel in Gravesend, Kent. The guests are dazzled on arrival, but Lesley Miller believes the champagne, truffles and fruit bowl are a ploy to win her over. The quality of the food gets good reviews at breakfast, although the guests poke fun at the crockery, and at feedback time criticism comes from an unexpected source and leaves the owner reconsidering his views of his rivals
