Opera singers from around the world gather at St David's Hall for the 40th anniversary of the prestigious international competition. In the opening round, singers from South Korea, Canada, England and South Africa perform with the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, hoping to win a place in Sunday's final. The judges are Brian McMaster, former director of the Edinburgh International Festival, Argentinian mezzo-soprano Bernarda Fink, Welsh soprano Rosemary Joshua, composer Errollyn Wallen and Aidan Lang, general director of Welsh National Opera.
