The race at the Twin Ring in Motegi usually takes place later on the calendar, and world champion Valentino Rossi will have happy recent memories of the circuit as it was where he clinched his sixth world premier-class title just seven months ago. It was Rossi's fourth win in Japan and continued Italian riders' domination of the race - seven of the last eight winners have been Italian, with Rossi's compatriot Loris Capirossi winning three consecutive times between 2005 and 2007.
