The Conquistadors

Michael Wood blends history, adventure and travel, as he charts the history of the Spanish conquest of the New World in this historical documentary.

The first programme, entitled "The Fall of the Aztecs" tells the story of Cortes and the Aztec empire. From the shores of the Yucatan, and the tropical forests of Tabasco, we follow his route through freezing storms, over snow-capped volcanoes, to the meeting of two worlds in the Aztec island city.

In the second programme "The Conquest of the Inca's" Michael tells the amazing story of the overthrow of the Inca empire by Francisco Pizarro.

Following the route taken by the Spaniards, Wood climbs ancient Inca roads with a train of llamas, and undertakes an epic jungle trek to the lost city of the Incas.
