On 11 September 2001, Port Authority policemen John McLoughlin (Nicolas Cage, pictured) and Will Jimeno (Michael Peña) rush to the site of New York's Twin Towers when news starts to trickle in of the disaster in progress. As they reach the site, the second tower falls, trapping the men under a mountain of rubble. As their families wait anxiously at home for news of the men's fates, they lie helpless, depending entirely on the efforts of the brave rescue workers above them.
Based on the true accounts of two of the last survivors to be brought out of the World Trade Center wreckage alive, this is a moving, uplifting tale of heroism and hope. Director Oliver Stone surprised critics and fans alike by abandoning his former outspoken conspiracy theories to craft a simple, patriotic tale of everyday people reacting with quiet courage on one of the darkest days in modern Western history.
