Sixteen-year-old Lynda lives with her younger sister and widowed father in a small English coastal town in the early 50s. Starved for affection after her mother's death, she seeks attention by shocking family and friends with her precocious behaviour. She starts to experiment with sex but her composure is shaken by an affair with an older man, a friend of her father's.
