Grim satire about religious phonies in the American South. A soldier returns from army service and changes his uniform for the garb of a preacher - although he has little faith or religion. He meets up with a blind preacher, who turns out not to be blind, but who nevertheless persuades him to blind himself so that he can learn the truth.
