Danny Boyle masterminds a multi-layered trip into the subconscious.
Gang boss Franck (Vincent Cassel) has engineered the heist of a multimillion-pound Goya painting right in the middle of its auction. But he doesn't count on the intervention of auctioneer Simon (James McAvoy), who it seems has hidden the painting for safe keeping. But after a blow to the head courtesy of Franck, Simon has no recollection of where he's put it, leading the gang to force him to visit hypnotherapist Elizabeth (Rosario Dawson) in a bid to jog his memory. It quickly becomes apparent, however, that nothing is as it seems.
Following his triumphant Olympics opening ceremony, Boyle returns to movies with this twisting, fast-paced thriller. In a film that transports you a long way from where you began, audiences will feel as hypnotised by Trance's stylish twists and turns as its multi-faceted characters.
