When slimy fat cat Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda) cons his workers out of their pensions, the employees of his Manhattan apartment block decide to reclaim what's theirs.
Spearheaded by tower manager Josh Kovacs (Ben Stiller), the mob, including workers Charlie (Casey Affleck) and Enrique (Michael Pena) and former tenant Mr Fitzhugh (Matthew Broderick), cook up a plan to rob Shaw's swanky penthouse. But, realising they don't have the skills to pull it off, they bring livewire criminal Slide (Eddie Murphy) and Jamaican safe cracker Odessa (Gabourey Sidibe) on board to shift their heist up a gear.
After a lukewarm reception for his entry into the X-Men franchise, Rush Hour director Brett Ratner returns to more familiar ground with this madcap action-comedy caper. Featuring an all-star cast, the likes of Stiller and Broderick offer amusingly downplayed turns, contrasted with an irrepressible Murphy in a welcome return to form. Not offering much cerebral nourishment but plenty of big, dumb fun, Tower Heist largely fulfils its intentions of providing some wisecracking, action-packed entertainment.
