Unlike many historical feature films, Tora! Tora! Tora! does not bend the facts. Meticulous and even-handed in its approach, it shows the events on both sides that led up to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941.
Also, movies about the Pacific theatre of the Second World War tend to demonise the Japanese. Tora! Tora! Tora! elects not to do this, presenting both the Japanese and American sides of the story without resorting to cheap shots. The Japanese are not faceless bad guys, nor are the Americans innocent, blameless victims.
At more than two and a half hours, Tora! Tora! Tora! is long, but it's still engaging and absorbing all the way through. It won an Oscar for best effects. Well worth watching.
