Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore star in George Roy Hill's 1920s-set musical. Millie Dillmount is a naive small-town girl who comes to New York and transforms herself into a toe-tapping flapper as part of her 'thoroughly modern' plan to marry money. She moves into the Priscilla, a hotel for young women, and befriends innocent orphan Miss Dorothy Brown. Millie gets a job as a secretary and schemes to marry her businessman boss Trevor Graydon, but he falls for Dorothy instead. Meanwhile, Millie's hotel is run by a wicked housemother, Mrs Meers, who drugs and kidnaps the tenants in order to sell them into slavery in China. When Dorothy vanishes, Millie and her friend Jimmy investigate. Discovering what Mrs Meers is up to, they set out to save Dorothy and foil the operation. Also featuring Carol Channing and Pat Morita. First play on Film4.
