Charlton Heston stars in this gritty medieval drama from director Franklin J Schaffner. Chrysagon is an 11th-century knight who is sent to defend a Druid village at the edge of his master's domain in Normandy. It's a mixed blessing for the villagers, as their defenders are only marginally less rapacious and abusive than the Frisian marauders from whom they're meant to be protected. After rescuing the beautiful bride-to-be Bronwyn from his own men, Chrysagon decides to exercise his droit de seigneur. Tradition dictates he should return the new bride to her husband once he's slept with her, but Bronwyn decides to stay with her knight - and that choice will spark further unrest, both within the community and beyond.
