This film tells the story of five sisters who all commit suicide in the same year.
Two decades later, in order to work out the events of that fateful year, one of the boys who used to spy on the girls attempts to recreate the events, from the youngest's first plunge into her own bloodbath, to the final field day of the national press.
The story is told through the recollections of the now grown-up neighbourhood boys, and unfolds in a series of stolen moments, interviews and journal entries.
This is no sentimental tale of the loss of innocence. This film takes on a decidedly darker edge with the death of the youngest sister and the affect this has on the family.
Virgin Suicides is a subtle, humorous, refreshing look at tragedy and the complexities of growing up.
