A fast-paced vampy high-camp romp, this mid-1970s cult musical now looks a little dated, but still delivers, mainly due to its strong score and powerful performances.
Brad Majors (Barry Bostwick) and Janet Weiss (Susan Sarandon) are innocent sweethearts who stumble upon a creepy old castle. Owned by deranged glam-rocker Dr Frank N Furter (a powerhouse performance by Tim Curry, pictured), it's full of alien revellers from the planet Transylvania.
Directed by Jim Sharman, the film was adapted from Richard O'Brien's stageplay. O'Brien plays Riff Raff in the movie. Others to look out for include Meat Loaf (Eddie), Christopher Biggins (a Transylvanian) and model, actress and photographer Koo Stark as an uncredited bridesmaid.
A bizarre melting pot of horror, sci-fi and rock music, the film satirises Hammer horrors and whodunits, with a healthy splash of Carry On.
