Fritz Lang's first western is a sequel to Henry King's 1939 classic, in which Jesse James was shot in the back by the Ford brothers. His brother Frank, now a law-abiding farmer, is initially happy for the law to take its course, but when the killers are pardoned, he vows revenge. With his young sidekick Clem and newspaper reporter Eleanor Stone in tow, he tracks the Fords down to a vaudeville show in which they reconstruct Jesse's death.
