Kenneth Branagh plays a priest in this tangled tale of love and liberation in 1930s Boston. William Hurt plays a wealthy socialite who, on learning he is sterile, agrees to find a man to impregnate his wife, played by the beautiful Madeleine Stowe. A suitable stud is selected (the improbably cast Neil Patrick Harris, aka Doogie Howser) and he soon falls in love with the beautiful writer he is servicing. As if this were not complicated enough, a priest arrives on the scene and he soon gives new meaning to the word de-frocked.
