After being turned into a frog by a mysterious shaman, hopping mad Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos) is determined to change himself back by the tried and tested method - a kiss from a princess.
Mistaking dressmaker's daughter Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) as royalty, he convinces her to plant a smacker on his now rubbery lips, but rather than turning back into the dashing prince as before, it is Tiana who shrinks to transform into a mortified amphibian. Desperate to return to normal, the pair must track down a voodoo priestess before Naveen loses his chance to marry a real princess and Tiana's hopes of owning her own restaurant are scuppered.
After a decade of successful CGI-heavy productions such as Bolt and Meet The Robinsons, Disney have turned back the clock with this hand-drawn spectacle. The Little Mermaid writer-directors Ron Clements and John Musker reunite to capture much of the magic of the 1989 underwater adventure, using a refreshingly modest idea and rolling with it in traditional cheery and songful style.
A joy to see Disney Animation Studios doing the simple things well, this triple Oscar nominee will join a timeless list of animation classics.
