Andrew L Stone's second world war comedy drama, loosely based on a true story, is about a British soldier Charles Coward, a prisoner of war who made several audacious escape attempts, during one of which he was awarded the German Iron Cross while posing as an injured German soldier. Coward himself makes a cameo appearance in the film.
