Denis Dercourt's superbly assured drama proves that revenge is a dish best served cold. Déborah François plays Mélanie, the daughter of a provincial butcher who dreams of becoming a concert pianist. But she fails her audition for the academy because of a thoughtless act by arrogant judge and internationally acclaimed pianist Ariane Fourchécourt. Years later, Mélanie finds herself looking after the son of a lawyer Jean who turns out to be the husband of Ariane. Mélanie insinuates herself into the household, earning their trust and love until the moment is ripe to destroy them all.
