Comedy drama in which Jack Lemmon plays American diplomat William Gridley, who is seconded to the American embassy in London. Arriving in the city, he rents lodgings in a house belonging to glamorous Carlyle Hardwicke, who has a shady past, being suspected of murdering her husband.
