The Night is Young (1986)
Michel Piccoli, Denis Lavant and Juliette Binoche star in Leos Carax's futuristic film noir, a romance/crime-thriller set against the backdrop of a sexually transmitted pandemic. An American woman wants to get her hands on a serum that's locked away in a Parisian laboratory; the antiviral is the only cure for STBO, a fatal disease that's spread by people who make love without emotional connection with their partner. She hires Marc for the job, who in turn hires his dead partner-in-crime's son Alex, a card sharp, to help him. Meanwhile, a chance sighting of a woman called Anna convinces Alex that he's found the love of his life, but he soon discovers she's already involved with Marc... Also featuring Mireille Perrier and Julie Delphy. As with Boy Meets Girl, the memorable cinematography is provided by Jean-Yves Escoffier. The final movie of a triple-bill, shown over three consecutive nights, from and featuring maverick filmmaker Leos Carax.
