In a remote New England town, a group of residents are trapped in the supermarket by an eerie mist. "There's nothing out there," says lawyer Brent (Andre Braugher).
"Nothing in the mist." But there is: something that feeds on human flesh. As the extent of the terror becomes clear, the townsfolk are split between resolute David Drayton (Thomas Jane) and weird Mrs Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden), who warns that their hellish situation is divine punishment for their sins: "It's the end of days."
"Promise you won't let the monsters get me," whispers young Billy Drayton (Nathan Gamble). He obviously hasn't read enough Stephen King. In his third adaptation of a King story, director Darabont cranks up the supernatural tension in a horror chilling enough to make you sleep with the light on.
