An all-star cast bring the world’s favourite toy to life in this critical and commercial smash.
Emmet (Chris Pratt) is an ordinary Lego construction worker living in the city of Bricksburg – until, that is, free spirit Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) mistakes him for the saviour of the world.
Emmet has stumbled upon the ‘Piece of Resistance’, an artefact that, it’s said, will fall to the hero who can stop the evil Lord Business (Will Ferrell) getting his hands on a super weapon, and is hauled along on a quest to stop him. But can this unremarkable chap find his inner hero?
Much more than an extended toy commercial, The Lego Movie has wowed audiences of all ages to become the biggest box office hit of the year so far. Lord and Miller have combined the anarchic humour and animated eye candy of previous projects 21 Jump Street and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs to build an adventure that’s bursting at the seams with fun.
The effervescent Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation, Guardians of the Galaxy) gives a loveable lead performance, and is backed by a star-packed cast including Liam Neeson, Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Will Ferrell and Arrested Development’s Will Arnett who – hilariously – brings his dulcet tones to the role of Batman.
